Protecting Siem Pang Wildlife Sanctuary
Rising Phoenix Co. Ltd. as a social enterprise aims to restore and conserve Western Siem Pang Forest using business principles in partnership with all who share our vision.
Rising Phoenix sees value in the forest and the wonderful wildlife it holds. We set out to tackle the threats posed against Siem Pang, to rewild the forest and to secure long term funding of the Wildlife Sanctuary.
To secure the future of Western Siem Pang Wildlife Sanctuary.
Tackling the threats
Rising Phoenix supports the law enforcement costs of Western Siem Pang Wildlife Sanctuary.
Preventing illegal wildlife hunting, logging and land encroachment within the Wildlife Sanctuary.
Ensuring the survival of the forest and wildlife, allowing sustainable benefits for local communities.
Law enforcement focuses on regular patrolling between three ranger stations located across the Sanctuary. Patrols are completed by motorbike, boat and foot. Rising Phoenix provides financial support to Ministry of Environment rangers, operation costs of the three ranger stations, as well as providing technical input on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the law enforcement effort. Road development and the threat of illegal settlement remain major threats to the integrity of the site.
Re-wilding the forest
Most of the large mammals of the forest have been lost including elephant, tiger and large herds of wild cattle.
Rising Phoenix is re-wilding Siem Pang to ensure that key natural processes continue, maintaining a healthy forest.
Rising Phoenix takes a focus on the recovery of key species that are important for maintaining the forest.
Rising Phoenix has received a grant from Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund which launched its rewilding efforts at Western Siem Pang Wildlife Sanctuary. This grant provides funding for a development of a feasibility study which includes the creation of demonstration sites within the sanctuary. Rising Phoenix will develop a protocol based on their learnt experiences and use this in future work as well as for awareness raising for key decision makers.
Securing long term funding for the forest
Rising Phoenix is raising long term funds for the forest.
With the aim to guarantee site management funding for at least the next 20 years.

This fund will be for exclusive use at Western Siem Pang Wildlife Sanctuary, guaranteeing the integrity of the protected area and the implementation of the site management plan.
